27 “Worship God!”

John falls down to worship the angel who has led him through such an amazing spiritual experience.  The angel will have none of this and seeks instead to treat John as an equal in the service of God, calling him a “fellow servant”.  John is told that God is the only one to whom he should offer his worship.

The angel is wearing the clothes of a workman in harmony with his response, “I am a fellow servant with you”.  The purpose of creation is a heaven of angels from the human race.  We are called to become servants of God who have found and embraced their role in his kingdom.  It is to the ‘John’ in all of us that angelic influences seek to reveal the will of God for us.  He yearns to sweep away so much that is old to make “all things new”, so that heaven can emerge within our hearts.  On our part, we should always honour the Divine as the source of all that is good and true in this process.

“I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things … I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me.  But he said to me, ‘Do not do it!  I am a fellow servant with you … and of all who keep the words of this book.  Worship God!”
