10 Sounding Seven Trumpets

Seven angels, each with a trumpet, stand before God. Another angel has a golden censer. After prayers the censer is filled with fire from the altar, and its contents hurled on the earth, with dramatic consequences. One by one the trumpets are sounded, and a series of horrific and destructive events afflict the earth. At the end come thunder and lightning, an earthquake and a great hailstorm.

A trumpet blast is a strident call to action, or perhaps to prepare for imminent action. From becoming aware of some negative state in our inner self, we must be brought to see its destructive effect upon ourselves and upon others. It’s not sufficient simply to “see and take note”. Whatever is preventing us from receiving and experiencing deep happiness and joy must be dealt with, and that inevitably involves upheaval. The point to remember is that after the darkness comes the light.

“I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. … [They] prepared to sound them.”

(chapter 8 verses 2 and 6)
