15 Two Witnesses
John is told from heaven of God’s Two Witnesses who will receive power and will prophesy whilst clothed in sackcloth. He is also told that the beast from the Abyss will attack and kill them in Jerusalem. But after three and a half days a breath of life from God will enter them. Their enemies will then see them ascending up to heaven in a cloud.
God’s Two Witnesses are what are better known as the Two Great Commandments which witness to the Love that is God and the need for its presence and activity in the human heart. However, the ‘beast’ of self-centredness within all of us attempts the eradication of these witnesses. We may then be given the experience of the divine miracle of resurrection to new spiritual life.
“I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy … Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them. … But after … three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet.”
